Pleasant Title

MOVING FILM FRAMES

Times Square
Skyscrapers rise in
islands
from the blue grey drizzle

Figures in black raincoats
ebb and flow
along the sidewalks

At street corners
DON'T WALK and WALK
signs blink on and off,
casting eerie envelopes in orange
and white light

A black sea of people in motion
bobbing up and down,
only a smattering
are vibrant with color.
Their faces beneath umbrellas
webbed like duck's feet

The City's low hum punctuated
by honking horns and squealing brakes.

Tempered Chaos
a crosswalk ladder-backed in
white stripes
Four-way-stop intersections
between buildings
in domino rows
dashed

A checkerboard
of yellow cabs move
up and down the concrete corridors

TAXI'S
Tail lights flashing at curbside
ON & OFF Duty Medallions
adding
a sharp white & amber glow
that spreads across
each cabs rooftop...

mirroring reflections against city
store windows and long
coke bottle glass expanses..

like moving film frames

Raindrops fall in short bursts
rippling the pavement
in upside down
fountains

The wet concrete lost
in the whirl and sizzle
of rubber tires,
rolling along the streets
in nylon ribbons
cast in chandelier reflections

The City is a Live Wire,
that vibrates and thrums
in ribbons of motion;
chased reflections
in shadow and light

Headlights
zigzag back and forth
across traffic lanes,
flashing amber signals
amid red tail lights

Information Bombs

Poem by Mary Margaret Park

information

tons of it

compression waves

spilling from our computer screens

A-bombs crowding

the mind’s horizon

origins

unknown

time slot stampede

marked and dated

obsolete upon arrival

the relevant

and the arcane

random and

specific

a vast

weigh station

of data

a race for the latest

it’s eclipse

             knowledge
